Fiber Run Help Needed!

~In the planning stages for a trip to Austin, Texas to visit daughter Darcey and s-i-l Todd. I need help finding fabulous yarn, fiber and quilt stores along the way. We’re leaving from San Diego and driving through Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas on Interstates 8 and 10. Please let me know any wonderful stores I must visit! Then, we’ll be in Austin at least a week so what’s around there? I know an adventure to Fredericksburg is on the agenda. We’d also like to check out birding spots along the way. INPUT NEEDED! I know some of you reading the blog are area experts. 😎

Meanwhile, I’ve started working on Mystery Hat KAL clue 2.

  1. How fun! Prescott is a great place to stop but I think it might be out of your way. Just in case, check out A Good Yarn ( and Studio Three ( For the Phoenix area, Tempe Yarn and Fiber ( and Jessica Knits ( For the Tucson area, Grandma’s Spinning Wheel (, Purls ( and Kiwi Knitting Company ( Enjoy your trip, you will see lots of wonderful places!

  2. In San Antonio, I like Yarnivore because they have yarn, fiber, and great parking. The former Yarn Barn was a must stop but the owners retired and sold the business. It relocated to a quaint but smaller shop and it’s really hard to find parking. I also would not go after dark. In Austin, Hill Country Weavers is my fave. You can also walk down that whole strip and find hip boutiques on both sides of S. Congress. Fredericksburg is a delight! I don’t know if they have a yarn store but you won’t need one with so much to see and buy. You have to eat at the Fredericksburg Brewing Company. Besides good food, they have large copper vats of freshly-brewed beers. They are good!
