Knit San Diego

~It had arrived! Knit New York: 10 Iconic New York Projects by Emma King.  A huge thanks to Tina Saunders at Peacefully Knitting whose give-away I won. The book contains patterns for knitting 10 of the Big Apple’s landmarks and symbols. I have a new grandchild on the way and think some of these items will make great soft toys.

The book got me to thinking about a Knit San Diego: 10 Iconic San Diego Projects.  What project would be included?

1. Surf Board – people come here for our beaches
2. Sun – people come here for our relaxed atmosphere and wonderful weather
3. Red Trolley – we’re really not know for our taxi’s
4. Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcalá – the first Franciscan mission built 1769
5. Coronado Ferry – before the Coronado Bridge and Sliver Strand it was the only way to get to the island
6. California Tower – from the 1915 Panama-California Exposition in Balboa Park
7. Point Loma Light House – Began service in 1855, only lasted about 36 years since it’s beam was obscured during the fog and it really was too far from the point.
8. Taco – taco stands are everywhere. We have the best tacos in the world
9. San Diego Zoo sign – no explanation needed
10. Killer Whale – from Sea World

There are a lot of other attractions not on the list: USS Midway, Seaport Village’s or Balboa Park’s Merry-go-round, Pacific Beach’s Crystal Pier, Whaley House – a haunted house in Old Town, El Cortez Hotel – a landmark, it was the first “high rise” in San Diego, Balboa Park’s Cabrillo Bridge, a beach umbrella….. The list is endless. How about knitting your city? What landmarks and symbols is it represented by?
