~This is the, for now, permanent cotton dye station set-up on the patio. I have busily been dying cotton diapers, cotton flannel, and cotton terry cloth to make “stuff” for the newest baby-to-be. The colors in the containers are: ocean blue, jungle green, tulip red, sunny yellow and my recipe for orange. I keep the sodium carbonate container close at hand to add to the bucket of soak water as a mordant before dying. I also add it to the dye baths.

I saw some bibs today along the same line as your burp clothes. They were rectangles with rounded corners, a hole cut for the head and trimmed with flannel (like your first photo). The hole had a stretch knit “collar” — like a t-shirt. The parents just pulled them over the kids’ heads — no ties, no velcro, no buttons. The stretchy collar kept them in place with no neckline gaps. The collar was white (abour 1″), the bib was double thickness flannel and the co-ordinating trip about 1/2″. Worked like a charm!

You know, you really shouldn’t be tempting me with these adorable fabric. It makes me want to run out and make sew something. Where did you purchase the fabric? I found some adorable fabrics at JoAnn fabrics, I purchased a nice stash when I was making costumes for the Passion Play. I didn’t have a project in mind, but now I do. The Women’s Ministry, in our church, is going to Haiti next year (I’m seriously thinking of going along too). With some of the cloth, I’ll be making blankets for Haitian families and some cute toys for the children.

Q – The dog and Monkey fabric from Joanns, the bug from my stash – cannot remember where I purchased it, the others from a local quilt shop Rosie’s. Rosie’s had a sale on fat quarters.
I bet you’d love to go to Haiti and help hand out the blankets and toys.
