Zentangle on Sketch Book

I love Zentangles! My go-to doodles. Is that a problem you ask? Well, I used to see quilt patterns everywhere, and now I see Zentangle patterns. Other tourists are taking pictures of “the whole” scene and I’m hunkered down over a bit of tile, grating, ironwork, etc seeing Zentangles. On a recent trip to Old Italy, a section in downtown San Diego, this is what I saw.

“Duotangle by the Letter!”

SL Tangle

SL Tangle

Tina of Peacefully Knitting “made” me do Diva’s Weekly Challenge this week. I liked the idea of doing a tangle based on my initials. My initials are SL. I chose Sh-rock and Log jam. AFTER I made my tangle I decided to head over and check out the tangle that was on Diva’s page (I swear). What a shock to find that L was one of her initials and what tangle did she pick for her “L”? Oh yeah, Logjam. After seeing hers, of course I’m not as pleased with mine. I couldn’t find my  soft-lead pencil for shading…… Anyway….. Tangling is fun and relaxing.

Getting Tangled Up and More

Let me preface this by saying that I’ve never been much of a doodler or drawer, never having an innate talent or classes. However, I’ve been hooked on Zentangles for a couple of years now. For me, it is an off and on again activity. This last spring I joined Ornation Creation FB site. This is such a fun site created by Ben Kwok who is a fabulous, zentangle template-maker. There are a lot of free zentangle templates at this site. People share their drawings and I am totally blown away by how fabulous they are. Little kids have even done these. Quilters and dyers need to look at the fabulous fabric design, there are examples of purses, shoes, furniture, et all decorated with Zentangle. Wonderful, wonderful.

After seeing the Zentangles of  Lisa blogger of Peacefully Knitting and reading about Diva’s Weekly Challenge, I decided to share one of my early tangles from Ornation Creation, which I downloaded and slightly changed this one, added color, and really am embarrassed at sharing my so-so tangle:

As a twitcher or birder or bird-watcher, I’ve always wanted to learn how to draw birds. This cartoon sums up most of the “How To” books I found on drawing birds:

While on vacation last August, I actually found a fabulous book which have multiple steps, has you look at each individual part of the bird. I cannot rave enough about this book. Here is the book and my first attempt:

Recently I read Outliers: The Story of Success by Malcom Gladwell. He hypotheses that there people do not have “innate talent”, instead talent is achieved after 10,000 hours of practice. Hummmmm.. I know that my 9-year-old grandson who is quite clever at drawing has not practiced for 10,000 hours. But, maybe there is a chance for me after 10,000 hours.

Tongue Painting

Look what we’ve been up to!  Page 47 of Wreck This Journal says “Tongue Painting” 1. Eat some colorful candy, 2. Lick this page.  This is the candy. 😎

NOTE:  DO NOT tongue paint with “raw”  Kool-Aid it is NASTY!!

No, these are not Hollywood stand ins, it is really us tongue painting!

Proof positive that we did the tongue painting ourselves and didn’t hire the grandkids to do it for us. 😎

Another Hard Day’s Work!  I’m so exhausted that I have to lean on Barb’s shoulder to rest. 😎
We took them home and added our own creative touches.  Love Curl’s Balloons!  I’m sure she was thinking of me when she drew the bottom, right balloon. Hum……. Look at the elephant!  It’s as if we’re looking at clouds and seeing shapes.
Notice my apple zentangle.  I love zentangles! Although I’m getting tired of the autocorrect changing it to entangle and pentangle as I’m typing this post! 😎
There is still time to join us!  We have to mail the books to ourselves and then we will be doing page 39.
